2007 World Champion Casey Stoner says that next years season, 2008, actually begins this weekend at the final race when everyones attention goes forward to next year. Stoner sealed his victory as MotoGP World Champion back in Japan, but says that testing and the beginning of next season starts here, the last race at Valencia. Giving Stoner some time to enjoy his Crown this season has been nice, but the Champ says its time to tuck back down and get in the race for 2008. The 22-year old World Champion said, “We’ve got two tests at the end of the year, and we’re looking forward to them. We need to come up with a package that will hopefully be better for next season.” Especially with the rumors and reports flying around that Valentino Rossi may be switching to Bridgestone rubber next year. Stoner remarked that after winning the Championship this season, any other victories and wins are just icing on the cake and a bonus. “People can make assumptions all they want, but until we get down to racing no one can be sure what’s going to happen, I’m just happy to be world champion, even if it’s just once. We’ve accomplished a huge goal in my life, and anything from now is a huge bonus.” At any rate, the season closer or Opener, is not going to be a boring race, there are points still to secure, awards and titles to be earned, and next year to worry about!
